The Model United Nations format is super restrictive. With all things considered we have less than 9 hours total to debate these topics, find a good resolution that is both reasonable and attainable, and pass them! This year, we have added layers of difficulty with possible tech issues and clunkier unmoderated caucuses.
Some advice for getting your points across and being efficient overall:
- Be prepared! Come prepared with some short blurbs or speeches to give during moderated caucuses! Often times you can predict what other countries will be bringing as their concerns or ideas. How would your country respond?
- Practice Practice Practice! Get comfortable speaking about the topics and the main points your delegation is bringing!
- Mention countries you are working with! As committee progresses, the easiest way to keep the rest of committee updated is to be clear on which resolutions you are working on by consistently naming other countries that are in the same bloc! This can also be done more effectively by naming your resolution early on!
- Use notes! This year, notes will all be facilitated online! This means your notes won't be lost when you pass it around committee! Use these to work through issues and concerns with blocs and working papers during moderated caucuses!
- Be confident!
